Definitions

Human Development Index (HDI):
A composite index measuring average achievement in three basic dimensions of human
development – a long and healthy life, knowledge and a decent standard of living.

Labour force participation rate:
Percentage of a country's working-age population that engages actively in the labour
market, either by working or looking for work. It provides an indication of the relative size of
the supply of labour available to engage in the production of goods and services.

Life expectancy at birth:
Number of years a newborn infant could expect to live if prevailing of age-specific mortalitity
rates at the time of birth stay the same throughout the infant’s life.

Skill Labour Force:
Percentage of the labour force ages 15 and older with intermediate or advanced education,
as clasified by the International Standard Classification of Education.

Vulnerable employment:
Percentage of employed people as unpaid family workers and own-account workers.

Estimated gross national income per capita:
Derived from the ratio of female to male wages, female and male shares of economically
active population and gross national income (in 2011 purchsing power parity terms).
